Buy the Latest Heavy Metal Band T-Shirts Online

Updated on February 3, 2015

It doesn't matter whether you're at a summer festival at the gatherings of the metal hordes or just in a local bar. If you're at your favourite theatre, entering an arena or even a huge stadium gig. Wherever you are rockin you'll need that t-shirt.

Indispensable items, the casual uniform of rock fans the world over, usually black but sometimes colourful especially for the ladies of the rock-chic sisterhood. The classics still prevail.

For over three decades the uncompromising logo of ACDC has been emblazoned on every album cover since it was first introduced on 'Let There Be Rock' back in 1977.

It's not important whether you prefer Bon or Brian.

If you listen to 'Highway to Hell' or 'Back in Black' Those four letters split by the lightning bolt is one of the most enduring emblems in the history of heavy rock music.

Without a doubt they are one of the biggest Heavy Rock bands in the history of popular music.

But not only that as they are one of the best Rock n' Roll bands ever to grace the stage. They have always considered themselves first and foremost as simply a Rock n' Roll band.

The 'VH' logo for Van Halen has come and gone with the tides of change throughout their career.

But it has always been in the background never far away since their 1977 debut album.

It's still around and still on their t-shirts as they have staked their place as one of the best metal bands to come out of America and with Eddie Van Halen one of the best rock guitarists.

Kiss are the last word in rock n' roll theatre and live excess and extravaganza. They may have wiped off the paint for a while after the 'Lick it Up' album in 1983 but they opened up the face-paint boxes again in the 1990s much to the delight of their fans.

The extent of Kiss merchandise is legendary and their image unique. A true phenomenon in American popular culture.

Metallica may have had a commercial and critical hiccup with the universally panned 'St Anger' album of 2003 but when you think of thrash metal you may automatically think of Metallica.

The forward artillery of the pounding onslaught from the most aggressive genre of heavy metal with classic albums like 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets' and 'Death Magnetic' But of course it was their 1991 self-titled 'Metallica' or often just called 'the 'black album' that launched them into the stratosphere.

When it comes to stadium rockers then who better than Aerosmith who are still at the top after 40 years.

They may have undergone an extreme musical makeover in the late 80's for the MTV generation.

But thanks to Geffen Records they are still popular and headlining massive arenas. Plenty of colour in their t-shirts to attract their large female following.

From the legends that are Aerosmith came one of their descendants in the shape of Guns n' Roses. Heavily influenced by Tyler, Perry and Co they have also transformed from their days when 'Appetite For Destruction' stormed the charts. Just who are Guns n' Roses? Depends what you're looking for.

The classic line-up blasted forth with rock n' roll sleaze full of nasty lyrics and raw guitar. The 21st century reincarnation brought the lavish production and sophisticated sweep of 'Chinese Democracy' one of the most expensive albums in history. But the old 80's logo still hold sway even today.

Come hither the self-styled Prince of Darkness of bat decapitation, dwarf-hanging and reality TV.

Ozzy Osbourne was one of the original Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse when Black Sabbath arose from Hades back in 1970.

With Tony Iommi's brilliant guitar riffs they were one of the most influential heavy rock acts ever.

Ozzy may have flirted with the peroxide perm of 1980s glam rock but he eventually returned to the darkside and kept bringing out great heavy metal.

Def Leppard are still going strong although they reached their massive peak in the mid-80's with the incredible 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria' albums that took America by storm.

They aimed high and reached higher aided by the enormous production values of John 'Mutt' Lange who enhanced their fantastic rock anthems like 'Bringing on the Heartbreak', 'Rock of Ages', 'Animal' and the crowd-pleasing singalong of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'.

What of the new breed? One of the best examples are Shinedown who have become massively popular especially for their 2008 album 'The Sound of Madness'. An energetic and exciting band who continue the tradition of unrelenting and 'in your face' rock n' roll.

The giants of AOR just have to be Journey as they are possibly untouchable in the classy category of richly textured rock music and exquisite balladeering.

Always a quality band in the 1970s they really hit the mark after the arrival of Jonathan Cain from The Babys. The result was the landmark album 'Escape' in 1981. Their merchandise perfectly reflects the colourful and imaginative artwork of their album sleeves.

But the real chartbusters are of course Bon Jovi who have sustained their place at the top of the big sellers. Huge hits like 'Livin' On A Prayer', 'Bad Medicine' and 'Keep the Faith' are still popular today and the band tour extensively all over the world to sold-out stadiums.

Very few rock bands have maintained such a consistent level of popularity over such a long time. You can be sure that Bon Jovi will never do a comeback tour since it's unlikely they will ever go away.

The death of Ronnie James Dio in 2010 was a terrible loss to heavy rock music.

The ex-Rainbow and ex-Black Sabbath singer had one of the greatest voices in rock music.

But his spirit and his music still live on and whenever you see Dio merchandise you will normally find tremendous examples of Gothic art and medieval fantasy.

Twisted Sister have proved to be one of the great fun bands of rock music. With fearsome make-up, colurful regalia and party tunes they even recorded a whole album of Christmas songs. But their rockers such as 'I Am, I'm Me', 'We're Not Gonna Take it' and 'I Wanna Rock' are brilliant tunes that still sound fresh today.

Many bands will claim the title of the 'bad boys of rock n' roll' and none other than Motley Crue will throw their hats into the ring.

They have been shouting at the devil since the early 80's surviving splits, fall-outs, booze binges, near-death drug overdoses, rehab and jail-time.

But their back catalogue speaks for itself with many outstanding hits such as 'Home Sweet Home', 'Girls, Girls, Girls', 'Kickstart My Heart' and many more. Unusually they have changed the style of their logo on every album they have made rather than stick with a standard motif.

Another contemporary glam band of the Crue that weren't averse to a little lip-gloss and hairspray were Poison. But behind the make up they had catchy tunes like 'Talk Dirty to Me' and 'Nothing But a Good Time' before they evolved a much more mature sound.

The classic ballad 'Every Rose Has it's Thorn' heralded the future potential that was confirmed by their albums 'Flesh and Blood' and 'Native Tongue' in the early 1990s. A colourful addition to your collection of t-shirts.

Moving even further back to the classic music of yesteryear then we can't ignore Led Zeppelin.

They always rejected the epithet of being a heavy rock band as there was distinctly more variety and many different influences in their music.Much of plagiarised unfortunately.

One constant for many years has been the winged-man symbol of their Swansong record label. There may never be a proper reunion and world tour but their popularity remains undiminished as long as 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Kashmir', 'Black Dog' and 'Whole Lotta Love' are blasting through the airwaves.

For no holds barred, down to earth boogie from the southern states look no further than Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their epic song 'Freebird' is the quintessential rock ballad that bursts into one of the most memorable guitar solos in musical history.

So good that you want it to last forever. But then there's also songs like 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Tuesdays Gone' to listen to as well. All the emblems are there on their t-shirts from the Confederate flags to the American eagles, motorbikes and guns and all that is the best in US music.

If hero-worship is your thing then what better heroes than the axemen of the lead guitar. Slash rose to prominence with Guns n' Roses and continued with a spell in Velvet Revolver and a successful solo career. An iconic image on stage and an iconic portrait for that rock t-shirt

None more symbolic though than Jimi Hendrix. His blues influenced guitar sound still sends shivers down the spine and he is rightly regarded as one the best, if not the best, rock guitarist that ever walked the earth or tread the boards of the big stage.

Songs like 'Voodoo Chile', 'Purple Haze' and 'Crosstown Traffic' amongst many great songs still sound raw and as fresh as ever. A true legend.

Whether you're young or old and whatever type of rock music you're into you know that the heavy rock t-shirt will never fade as a fashion item.

Even if the colours or the motif themselves gradually disappear the style never will.

Of course as we have seen here the classic logos still appear and never look like going out of fashion. The famous examples of the ACDC and Van Halen logos and the mythical winged figure of Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label are still popular today.

A heavy rock t-shirt is like wearing a street banner or benevolent gang colours, marking you out as one of the great brothers and sisters of the metal community.

Certainly some of the designs can be tacky and others can be gaudy but the classics stand out and sustain their look. No other genre of popular music can quite match the cool and the kudos of the heavy rock band t-shirt.
